Rifle meas. approx. 48.00 inches long. The heavy half octagon/half round barrel meas. approx. 31.50 inches long and is .40 caliber in size. The face of the muzzle has four holes for accepting a false muzzle. Bore has excellent rifling. Barrel surface has all of its original blue. Original nipple is present on the bolster. There is no front sight. Only an empty mortise cut into the muzzle. The rear sight is present and is of notched iron. The barrel tang has a partially threaded post while just behind the rear sight there is a drilled hole. This is evidence that at one time a more substantial rear sight was present.
The elongated lockplate is set flush into the stock and wears a light patina. It is marked along the top edge “AUG. H. PERRY.” Serpentine hammer is engraved with scrollwork. Action works well. Double-set triggers work properly.
The half-stock retains its original finish and is in good condition showing only very light surface wear of a few scratches from age and storage. Nose cap is pewter. Left side of the butt does not have a raised cheek rest. Plain heavy buttplate is shaped to fit securely into the shooters shoulder. Patchbox is circular with pointed decoration.
Triggerguard is decorative with elongated ends and finger rests. Barrel is anchored to the stock by a wedge pin that has an oval escutcheon on each side. Ramrod appears to be made of ebony wood with a silver tip on each end. Lower end unscrews to expose an attached ball puller. [ad]
