Item Code: 998-154

This Model 1816 has iron surfaces that are dark and turning a plumb brown. It has never been cleaned or altered in anyway and the flintlock has all its original parts.

Round .69 barrel meas. approx. 42.00 inches long. The surface of the barrel has some light pitting by the breech. Bayonet lug is present on top of the muzzle while the front brass blade sight is mounted on the rear of the front double barrel band. There is no rear sight. Breech area is marked with “US” over “JM’ over “P.” Left flat is also marked with “LS.” Top of the barrel tang bears the date of “1831.” All these markings are strong. Bore is semi-bright with much surface dirt. A good scrubbing will improve its appearance.

Lockplate has a rounded beveled front with a point at rear that is flush to the stock. Behind the hammer is a very strong “MIDLTN” over “CONN” over “1831” and an 8-pointed sun or flower showing this to be an early Starr specimen. Forward of the hammer is “US” over a rising sun with “N. STARR” in an arc at bottom. Brass pan has a dark patina to match the rest of the surfaces on the weapon. Frizzen has proper bend at top and operates properly. Frizzen spring is very strong. Hammer has operating jaws for flint and the action works well.

Walnut stock is dark and is in good condition. It shows the usual signs of use such as small scratches, dings and dents but no cracks. There is one inspector’s cartouche on the flat opposite the lock. Right behind it is a carved Roman numeral “XII.” Left side of the butt is marked with an “LS” and there is another cartouche just forward of the buttplate tang. The lines of the wood are strong. The ramrod channel shows only light wear.

The three barrel bands, triggerguard and buttplate match the rest of the iron surfaces on the weapon. Buttplate tang has a strong “US.” All lock screw heads are good.

Ramrod is button head type and is full length with threaded tip.  [ad]
