.58 caliber, single shot percussion musket. Standard markings, lockplate eagle motif/“U.S Springfield/1862”; matching barrel “1862” date, & “VP eagle” [both lightly worn, though entirely legible], barrel band “U”s, buttplate “US”, and left wrist inspectors cartouche. All metal parts exhibit a bright & consistent patina, with scattered patches of slight pitting. Walnut stock displays handsome brown patina, with a few of minor nicks consistent with age & usage. Bore exhibits slight traces of pitting near muzzle. Else VG. Altogether, an extremely attractive M1861 Springfield. Fine display piece.
