The Model 1871 was produced in 1871-1872. Total production was approximately 10,000. It is a 50 caliber centerfire with a single shot rolling block action.
The barrel is 36 inches long and secured by two barrel bands. Bore is good and bright. Iron mountings are finished bright and the frame is also bright. Stock is made from walnut with a cartouche.
The frame is marked on the left: MODEL 1871 and on the right: American eagle motif above U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1872. The tang is marked REMINGTON’S PATENT PAT. MAY 3RD, NOV 15TH, 1864, APRIL 17TH, 1868. The buttplate and the frame is stamped with 24, probably a rack number. Model 1871’s do not have a serial number.
