The view was taken from the observation tower in Ziegler’s Grove looking west. The whole camp is in view. The tents just seem to stretch on and on. In front of a row of tents in the foreground is a sign that reads “INDIANA.” Also in the foreground is the monument to the 8th Ohio that stands close to the Emmitsburg Road.

To the right is the edge of the town of Gettysburg with the camp stretching out behind it. To the left are the Codori Farm buildings and a huge tent that research says measured 400 x 175 feet. Behind this large tent, in the distance, are the woods on Seminary Ride from which Pickett’s Division emerged on the afternoon of July 3rd to begin their famous charge. Further to the right in the background is the Virginia Memorial with Gen. Lee perched atop it. In the middle distance is a railroad line with a short train of passenger cars on it.

This image has mark for Losey Photographers of Indianapolis, Indiana and at bottom center the caption reads “PEACE RE-UNION CAMP OF THE BLUE AND THE GRAY / 50TH ANNIVERSARY BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG / GETTYSBURG, PA. JULY 1ST TO 4TH 1913.”

Photo housed in a black wood frame that is the original. Wood surface shows light wear.
