Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M26436

14” x 11” unframed display with strands of hair from Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln, as well as a 7/8" x 1" fragment of cloth from the courting sofa. Included are copy photos of both Abe & Mary, and a photo of the sofa; a certificate of authenticity and provenance documentation included.

This unique display contains a strand of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Lincoln's hair as well as a remnant from the original fabric that covered the "courting sofa" that Abraham and Mary Lincoln sat on while courting prior to their marriage in 1842. The hair originated from small locks belonging to Mrs. Carolina Wright, the wife of Indiana Governor Joseph A. Wright, following Lincoln's 1865 inauguration as a token of their friendship. The fabric originated from the famous Lattimer collection [Heritage Auctions 2008] and was formally in the collection of noted Lincoln specialist Chuck Hand. Included is a wonderful booklet giving the history and provenance of the "courting sofa" and the fabric. The hair was sold at Christie's Auction in 2002 [Forbes Collection] and a copy of that lot page is included with the booklet.  [LD]
