Cane is made of wood which has been stained a dark brown color. Top of cane has a brass ring with ivory handle. Etched on one side of the handle is “GEORGE H. STUART, LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN DECEMBER 21, 186?”.  The last digit is indistinguishable because of a small chip in the ivory.

Cane measures 34 ¾” long. Wood has some light scuffs and scratches. There are two small cracks, about 1” long at the bottom. Ivory handle shows some scuffs, slight surface cracks and one small chip.

Canes made from battlefield wood were very popular with the veterans and are highly collectable items.   [sm]
