Andrew Robinson enlisted as a private into Co E, 194th PA Volunteer Infantry on July 18, 1864 and was mustered out of service on November 6 the same year. Robinson’s brown leather-veneer cased bible is dated 1864 and is a copy published by the firm of Hogan & Thompson of Philadelphia. The book measures 4¼” x 2¾” and is 1½” high (thick). Individual pages of the text are tight and clean. Not gilted. Frontis is ID’d with handwritten inscription “Andrew Robinson / Curtin Fencibles / Camp Curtin / Harrisburg / Penn. / July 16th 1864.” Pressed body binding for the most part is strong. Spine leather in poor condition but its gold gilt title reads “HOLY BIBLE”. Front cover tight but scuffed while the back cover is split at the edge and very loose. Spine is torn and worn with areas lost to tearing and fraying. Case closure tab is heavily damaged and exhibits major tearing, scuffing, fraying and separation in spots.
Andrew Robinson enlisted on July 18, 1864 as a private, and on that date mustered into Co. E, 194th Pennsylvania Infantry; that particular company was known as the “Curtin Fencibles”. The regiment was a 100 day unit that was recruited from the state at large, and saw provost duty in and around Baltimore. Robinson mustered out with the regiment on November 6, 1864 at Harrisburg, PA.
