CDV is a chest-up view of Weidner H. Spera. He is wearing a dark colored double breasted frock coat with shoulder boards.
The reverse has a photographer’s imprint which reads, “THOS. CUMMINGS PHOTOGRAPHER, NORTH QUEEN ST. LANCASTER, PA, NEGATIVE NO. 11980”. There is also a handwritten inscription in period ink that reads, “W.H. SPERA, MAJ. 17 PA CAV”. An orange tax stamp is present.
Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time.
Weidner H. Spera enlisted on October 24, 1862 as a Captain and was commissioned into Co. “C”, 17th PA Cavalry. He was promoted To Major on August 10, 1864 where he was transferred from Co. “C” into Field & Staff. He was discharged on June 20, 1865. [sm]
