Bust view of Levi Axtell Dodd in the uniform of a Brigadier General. He sports a walrus-like mustache with clean shaven chin. He wears a dark double-breasted frock coat with Brigadier General shoulder straps. Image and mount have light surface dirt. Lower corners of mount are clipped. Photographers imprint on back is “McKEAN… MERCER COUNTY, PA.”
Levi A. Dodd was born in Franklin County, PA on August 13, 1833. He was commissioned Captain of Co. F, 169th Pennsylvania Infantry on November 16, 1862 to serve for 9 months and was mustered out on July 15, 1863. During their service the 169th was part of the 4th Corps and served as a garrison for Fort Keys on the Virginia coast. Dodd re-entered the Army on September 16, 1864 when he was commissioned Lieutenant Colonel of the 211th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was promoted to Brigadier General by brevet on April 2, 1865 and was discharged on August 3rd of that same year. During his time with the regiment Dodd would have seen action at Fort Harrison and in the Petersburg and Appomattox Campaigns. After the war he lived in Baltimore where he died on August 5, 1901.
