This is a mahogany wood box for surgeon’s implements.
The exterior remains in very good condition. An oval brass escutcheon is on the lid, in the center, and engraved in script, “U.S.A. / Medical Department”. The case also features brass hinges, brass lockplates, and brass reinforcing straps on the corners. The mix of the rich wood color and brass makes an attractive combination. Both sliding “locks” are operable.
The box measures approximately 13.75” x 5.75” x 3.75”. The interior has been completely stripped and has no partitions remaining. Exterior shows some minor surface wear, otherwise the box is solid and in very good shape.
This box is perfect for a medical display by itself. [jet] [ph:L]
