No keys to open up these Civil War era leg shackles. These iron shackles measure 22 inches long with their chain while the cuffs are a little less than 4 inches in diameter. The chain on its own measures 11.5 inches. The one cuff has a patent stamp that reads "PATENT DEC 10 1861" and a rough stamping that reads "A. Rankin Philadelphia." The US Patent 33,917 was issued on that date to Alfred Delestatius of Philadelphia, who assigned the patent to Andrew Rankin of Philadelphia. The patent is for "improvements to manacles and shackles." If only he'd invented an improvement to losing keys!
