Arsenal-made iron bit typically used by Southern cavalry of the Civil War period. Side “cheek” pieces are shorter than usual, measuring approximately 5 ¾” long. These have three sets of loops for tack. Constructed of only three pieces of iron: two check pieces and a mouth piece. No other cross bars or rings.

The bit also has a crude curb chain attached to the top. Iron is dark and rusty but still retains about 50% of original black paint.  [jet]
