Presented here is a nice pair of Civil War heavy cast brass stirrups in very good original condition. These equestrian artifacts are totally unmarked and each piece measures 6” high by 5” wide. Each stirrup has a ½” thick tread that features a brass top plate perforated with two, long, open slots inset into the brass surface at the time of casting. The pad or tread surfaces exhibit a sharp front and rear edge on each stirrup. Each of the stirrups exhibits a very fine, dark bronze patina overall with just normal dings from age and use. A very good pair of mid-nineteenth century brass artillery stirrups.
