Item is a two piece plate that consists of a tongue, wreath and two keepers. This brass plate was made from the 1840’s through the 1880’s.
The tongue has a spread-winged eagle on a horizontal anchor at center surrounded by 13 small five-pointed stars. The detail on the eagle’s chest is a little weak but the rest of it is very detailed with individual feathering on the wings and tail. The wreath is the typical oak leaf wreath with nice detail and sharp crisp leaves. The wreath meas. approx. 2.25 inches in height and width. When interlocked the piece meas. approx. 3.00 inches across.
The plate is in nice condition with a light patina and very light surface dirt. The only markings are a “56” stamped into the reverse of the tongue.
