The plate consists of two keepers and the snake shaped hook.
The snake’s body shows details on each side. Both are side views of the snake with a floral decoration at middle.
Brass has a nice mellow patina.
With the buckle is a modern typed label that reads “ENGLISH SNAKE BUCKLE—IMPORTED WITH ENFIELD ACCOUTERMENTS AND WIDELY USED IN THE CONFEDERATE SERVICE AND IN SOME INSTANCES BY FEDERAL TROOPS.” [ad]
