Very attractive plate made of solid brass. Face of plate has applied silver “US” in gothic script inside an applied silver wreath surrounded by a sunburst. The rays of the sunburst are raised and are part of the cast plate. Reverse has three wide hooks, 1 tongue and 2 belt hooks. The condition is extremely good with a mellow patina on face and darker patina on reverse. Measures 2 ½” wide x 3 ¼” tall.
This was the regulation officer’s shoulder belt plate from 1840-1851 and is not encountered often. A perfect example. [jet]
