Nice condition Confederate wood canteen with wonderful signs of age and use. The wood has aged well and has an attractive surface. The raised edges of the wood slats that surround the body of the canteen have a very nice dark patina. Both iron retaining rings are present and show age and wear to match the rest of the wood. One of the slats has a carved “A.” Bunghole has a reproduction wooden stopper,
The surface of the side panels are in good condition with average wear and no cracks. Carved into one side is an unfinished inscription consisting of the letters “AA.” All three iron sling keepers are present.
Also present is a wonderful black leather sling with a brown underside. One end has a japanned iron buckle with a leather keeper while the other end has the tongue and two adjustment holes. Strap is approx. 1.25 inches wide and narrows at the ends to accommodate the small buckle. A few inches of the tongue end is missing. Overall the sling is excellent. [ad]
