This is the shield and half wreath worn by the Marines even before the Civil War. Missing is the brass horn and the letter M but a reproduction one has been added. The shield is die struck and made of brass as is the half wreath. There are no hooks on either piece.
Both pieces show a matching patina and have been together for some time.
Early Marine Corps insignia of any kind is rare and desirable.
