This style of infantry insignia was meant for use by officers but it can be seen on headgear from all ranks. Units from New England seemed to favor these privately purchased Infantry insignia.

The horn is made of stamped brass and meas. approx. 2.50 inches wide. The stamp used to make this insignia had lines cut into it to give the body of the horn the impression of being embroidered.

This one is very clean and looks to be unused.

The reverse has all three of the attaching wires.

This is a nice quality Civil War insignia.
