FANTASTIC CIVIL WAR ARTILLERY OFFICER’S HAT INSIGNIA

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 697-539

This artifact from the Civil War is a minty specimen of a Union artillery officer’s forage cap insignia constructed of stamped brass and made to look like imitation embroidery. Face of this device depicts a pair of crossed cannon. The reverse of the insignia retains the original four, iron wire loops or pins that are soldered to the backside and serve to pin the item to the crown of the forage cap. All pins present and tight. The insignia differed from the enlisted crossed cannon device in that the officer’s piece exhibited a false embroidery overall with a beaded or lined effect on the entire body. This insignia measures 1½” wide and 1” high at the highest point. A super fine, uniform hat accoutrement for a Civil War Federal artillery officer.
