BRIDLE LEATHER CAVALRY CARBINE SLING

$1,150.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1110-10

A superb example of the Cavalry shoulder sling designed for use with weapons fitted with sling rings (musketoon, rifled carbine, and all of the patented breech-loading carbines). The sling was to be worn over the left shoulder with its buckle to the back.  These slings were used extensively throughout the Civil War and well into the post-war period of the Indian wars as well.

This specimen is constructed of a black bridle leather belt measuring 2 3/8” wide by approximately 53” in length. The steel swivel and snap-hook device is unmarked. The large rectangular brass buckle and brass sling tip remain well secured. The buckle is sewn and riveted. The brass parts are clean with some waxy verdigris where they meet the leather.

The condition of the leather is excellent and very supple. Maker and sub-inspector stamps are light but present. A very nice and complete carbine sling.   [jet]
