Made of a single piece of bridle leather folded and sewn, this piece measures 8.25” long x 3.25” at its widest point. With belt loop at top and scalloped profile, this has an almost shield-shape at the bottom where it comes to a point. Leather is slightly stiff and retains the shape of the scabbard it once held. Stitching is tight and unbroken on the lower portion while the stitching around the belt loop has separated. Surface finish exhibits light wear.
Would have been used for a bayonet or possibly an NCO sword. Remains in good condition. [jet] [ph:L]
