This well-worn rig includes a percussion cap pouch, a belt, and a US infantry belt buckle. The cap pouch is soft and pliable. It features the integral latch tab as part of the outer flap. The inner flap retains both “ears”. A soldier field modification was made using a copper rivet to attach the inner and outer flaps, so both would open as once. No lamb’s wool remains. Both narrow belt loops and brass finial are intact.
The belt is well-worn with surface cracking and finish loss. Belt leather measures 37 inches. Early Dragoon-style US belt buckle features puppy-paw belt studs. The lead-filled back bears the maker’s stamp, “W.H. SMITH / BROOKLYN”. The brass face is dinged up with one large dent left of the “U” but has a nice aged mellow color. This is an original, well used infantry belt rig. [jet]
