CIVIL WAR OFFICER’S TOOLED SWORD BELT WITH PATTERN 1851 BUCKLE

Item Code: 766-1554

This is an officer’s sword belt rig in good condition. Belt is constructed of folded leather that is stitched together on the inside. A double row of stitching is also found on top and bottom edge of belt. Nice tooled floral design on belt. Belt leather measures approximately 35” long overall x 1 ¾” wide. Leather is smooth and supple with light wear on edges. Brass adjuster hook is missing; a small hole was cut in its place, perhaps to try a brass “button” or stud-type adjuster, also not present. This loose end has since been glued down in place. Leather “uniform protector” (which goes behind buckle when worn) shows light wear. One sliding belt loop remains on belt.

Two leather sword hangers (sliding) are present. Brass snap hooks, J-hook, and “buttons” are all in place. These hangers measure 21” and 11.5” long overall including swivels. Overall, the stitching remains tight and strong, but appears to have been reinforced on the lower ends of the belt loops.

Pattern 1851 buckle features high relief details on front and 1” wide tongue on back. No bench mark numbers on buckle or keeper.

Overall, a fine officer’s sword belt that would look good on a uniform display.   [jet] [PH:L]
