MAKER MARKED AND INSPECTED MODEL 1864 .69 CAL CARTRIDGE BOX

$395.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 218-532

The leather of this box is in very good condition. Though the outer surfaces show some light crazing and scuff marks it is still a nice example of the 1864 box incorporating all the changes. The latch tab is sewn and riveted, the roller buckles on the bottom are smaller and anchored by a rivet and curved stitching and the finial is pear shaped.

The outer flap has a strongly embossed “US” in an oval at center. Latch tab is tightly attached at the bottom and shows light surface wear.

The interior flap is smooth and clean with both ears being present. Stamped on the flap is “R. NECE PHILA.” and just above it is the Ordnance Department inspector’s stamp. The implement pocket is present and is in good condition. Both tins are also present on the interior.

The bottom of the box has both roller buckles and the finial while the reverse has both belt and sling loops. Belt loops show light to moderate surface wear to match the rest of the box exterior. Exterior seams are tight.  [ad]
