US CIVIL WAR NAVY PISTOL CARTRIDGE BOX

$895.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1089-06

Black bridle leather Navy pistol cartridge box in good condition.

The leather of the outer flap is in good condition with moderate surface dirt and wear. At center is an embossed oval with “USN.” There are two small holes, one above the letters and one below where some kind of a plate was once attached. The latch tab is complete but worn and shows some surface finish loss. It is attached to the underside of the outer flap by a single straight line of stitching.

The interior flap is also in good to very good condition with both ears, a tooled line along the flap edge and strongly marked “US. NY / BOSTON” within a tooled line.

Interior of the box has a tin divided into 6 compartments. One of the compartments is missing its divider and the tin shows some light dirt and rust.

The interior body of the box is excellent with a half-moon shaped implement pocket with flap and tab in good condition. Bottom of the box has pear shaped brass finial.

Reverse has large single belt loop with minor crazing.  [ad]
