This is the “long drop” version of the US Marine Corps 1912 pattern holster intended for dismounted use. This style omits the swivel found on the mounted version. This scarce holster remains in good condition, with a deep brown finish to the leather and some wrinkling from flexing. Minor wear on the back and at points where it would rub. All the finish is present with just one or two small flecks along the leading edge of the body.
Embossed oval with “USMC” is light but visible. Belt hooks and two brass finials are present. A second, larger, hole was cut into the flap. No leg strap.
A very good example of a scarce USMC holster used from 1912 right through the end of World War One. [jet]
