This antique optical instrument from the post-Civil War era is a very appealing, four-fold collapsible telescope/spyglass in very good condition. Made of brass, this device is constructed with four cylindrical folds or shafts that collapse within each other. When the folds are fully extended, the telescope measures 15 ¼” long and collapses to only 5 5/8” in length. The main lens has a 1 1/8” diameter and has its brass press-fit protector. Maker mark is engraved in first fold out section: “Andrew J. Lloyd company / Boston”. This company was established in 1870, and specialized in “Eyeglasses and Spectacles”.

Artifact is functional and in very fine condition, showing overall minor wear from use/storage. Exterior body retains its black bridle leather veneer sheathing in good condition with slight scuffing. All folds, collars and trim of the telescope are made of solid brass and wear a mellow bronze patina. No dents or dings. No case. This optical accoutrement is a pleasing specimen from the mid-19th century that would enhance any instrument collection.
