This historic plate pictures all Republican Presidential Nominees from 1856 through 1908. A classic political plate issued for during the 1908 campaign of Republican nominees William Howard Taft for President and James Schoolcraft Sherman for Vice President. At the bottom of the plate, it is labeled "Grand Old Party 1856-1908 Standard Bearers" and around the edges are pictures of all the Republican nominees for President. In the center are portraits of Taft and Sherman with American flags surrounding and the White House above. Below the portraits it says "1908 For President William Howard Taft / For Vice President James Schoolcraft Sherman. Plate measures 9.6” in diameter. Another example can be seen in the collections of the Smithsonian Institute.
Also included is a scrap book, made from a repurposed copy of the Pennsylvania State Treasurer’s Annual and Detailed Reports of 1881. Period newspaper clippings are glued to each page and cover a range of subjects. Book measures 6.6” x 9.75” and features nearly 100 pages of clippings.
