Measures 23.5 x 21.5”, mounted flat in a contemporary wooden frame, with stiff card backing. Made of cotton, this handkerchief features a solid blue field, with U.S. flags & eagles in corners, and with thirteen stars surrounding circular portraits of Harrison & Morton, the 1888 Republican candidates for president & vice president. Moderate color fading faded, else near mint.
Benjamin Harrison was the grandson of 9th US President William Henry Harrison, who died after serving only 30 days in office. Benjamin Harrison won the 1888 election, defeating Grover Cleveland, but was defeated by Cleveland in an 1892 rematch, the only time in US history that a former president has been re-elected to office.
Superb piece for Hoosier Harrison buffs & presidential campaign collectors.
