White pottery stein that stands approx. 11.00 inches tall. The side is decorated with a full color cavalry scene showing a soldier with saber drawn charging down a rode while in the background another soldier takes leave of his sweetheart and a bugler sounds the advance. Above the charging rider is “SIEG ODER TOD!” which means “VICTORY OR DEATH.” Behind the soldier is a scroll that reads “ERINNERUNG A. M. DIENSTZEIT” which is basically “A Reminder of my Service.” Written on the base is the name of the soldier who owned this stein “Cav. Euler” or Cavalryman Euler and across the top is his unit “Cur.-Regt. Graf Gesslar Nr. 8 (Deutz) 1906-1909.” This regiment was named after Friedrich Leopold von Gessler who was a Calvary General under Frederick the Great. The dates correspond to Cavalryman Euler’s dates of service, 1906-1909.
On each side of the decoration is a list of the men in the company. The list starts with the Captain and runs alphabetically from A-Z with Cavalryman Euler in the list. Pewter lid is decorated with scrollwork design and flowered thumb-lift. Very top has wonderful figure of a mounted lancer jumping a fence. Bottom is not translucent. It is solid with a raised decoration of a soldier and woman. There is a small hairline crack on bottom but other than that the item is in very good condition.
