Beautifully engraved silver sugar tongs were made in Newcastle, England circa 1800. There are three symbols embossed to indicate this, as well as the maker’s initials, “C D”. They are the duty mark of the monarch’s profile, indicating that the tax had been paid to the crown, as well as the city mark and silver standard marks, which are the Newcastle coat of arms and a lion.
Nicely engraved with initials "AY". Patina is very bright and there are no flaws at all. These tongs will be a great addition to a collector of Victorian era household items.
Tongs measure 6 ¼” long.
