CIVIL WAR PERIOD BONE RING DECORATED WITH STARS & LOZENGES

$250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2022-1294

Small carved bone ring meas. approx. 1.00 inch across the side and 1.08 inch high with the rectangular face decorated with the carved initials “L.S.” filled with slightly worn red ink. Both sides of the face, at the top of the band, have a carved five-pointed star followed by a lozenge. Both stars have very small amounts of blue ink or paint in the tips of the points. The lozenges appear to be plain. The bottom of the band is decorated with plain dots.

The front and back sides of the face are decorated with blue geometric shapes and red lozenged. Scratched on the inside of the ring, under the face, are the initials “H.T.P.

Of course the stars and lozenges could be 12th/20th Corps and 3rd Corps insignia, or they can just be decoration. No way to tell for sure but the color scheme of red, white and blue denote a patriotic purpose.

Ring is in overall good condition.  [ad] [ph:L]
