Silver plated, with rear bar pin, measuring 2” in length, .5” in width, with rolled scroll ends, containing small “U.S.” engraving at upper left, and “Phil.” on the lower right. Center engraving, in cursive script: “Christian Commission”. Silver plating is bright, with some wear, though entirely legible. Reverse exhibits light grime, bar pin solid.

The United States Christian Commission was an organization that furnished supplies, medical services and religious literature to Union troop during the American Civil War. Joshua Chamberlain’s brother John served with USCC and was present at Gettysburg, helping tend the wounded the 20th Maine wounded following the action on Little Round Top. Georgia McClellan, sister of Jennie Wade, the only civilian killed at Gettysburg, also served with the commission.
