Ornate, very rare Victorian frame shows a floral border with a cameo image in an oval at the top. It was made for a half plate daguerreotype, and it is listed in Berg’s book “19th Century Photographic Cases and Wall Frames” as 7-3 (VR) CLASSIC MEDALLION. Original glass has been replaced with plastic to protect image. Marking on the reverse reads, “DIATITE / PATENTED DEC. 15, 1868”.

Image is a half plate albumen photo of a lovely young lady, circa 1880’s. Her hair hangs down at the side in curls, and we can see the top of her dress with the neck bow that was popular at this time. Back of image is hand inscribed, “EVA OLM”.

Frame measures 7 ¼” by 10”. Interior oval window measures 5 by 5 ¾”. Frame is in very good condition with no chips, just some light surface cracking in areas.  [sl]
