Albumen mount meas. approx. 13.25 x 10.50 inches. Mount is heavily stained with foxing and dirt from age and storage. The paper image size is approx. 7.75 x 5.50 inches and has two or three stained spots but is overall in good shape. Image is clear with good contrast.

The photo was taken in a lightly wooded field with the main group of four men, three women, one child and one guard taking it easy after a game of croquet.

Seated at center is a 1st Lieutenant wearing a sack coat buttoned at the throat and a straw hat. He is flanked by two women both wearing light colored dresses. One wears a shawl and hat while the other wears a dark pillbox cap. Standing at left is another 1st Lieutenant wearing an open dark frock coat with matching dark trousers and a kepi. At far right is another officer wearing a dark frock coat with matching trousers, brush epaulettes, waist belt with rectangular buckle and a sash diagonally across his chest showing he is the Officer of the Day. On his head is a Hardee hat complete with plume and a bullion bursting bomb ordnance insignia on the front of a crown that is creased fore and aft. Seated on the grass are two more females. One looks to be a teenager while the other looks to be in her twenties. They also wear light colored dresses. Seated at right is a fellow wearing a dark civilian suit and straw hat puffing on a pipe with a 2 foot stem. In the background is another soldier standing at attention. He is also dressed in a dark frock coat and Hardee hat but his trousers are light colored.

On the ground in front of the group are several croquet balls and a croquet pin.

There is no caption on the image and the reverse is blank. [ad]
