CDV album has brown leatherette cover with embossed design on the front and back. Leatherette is in fair condition, with some wear all over, especially on the edges and corners. Covering on spine is gone. but pages are still attached to each other.
Album has an ivory vellum lining on inside of front and back covers. All pages are present and intact. There is a title page labeled, “THE AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM”. The edges of the pages are gold gilt which has retained its brightness. The album closes with two decorative gold colored metal clasps which are still firmly attached.
Album contains 44 images. There is space for 50 images. There are a variety of men, women and children of all ages. Men are in civilian attire. These images are mostly of individuals, but a few have family members posed together. Backmarks checked are from Pennsylvania. Stuffed between the pages are newspaper clippings of death and marriage announcements, a letter and a county marriage certificate.
Album measures approx. 4 ½” x 6” x 2 ½”.
This is a great album for a collector of Civil War era civilian images. There are a few post-war images as well. [sl]
