Post-war bust view wearing civilian clothing. Printed on paper attached at the bottom of the image is “WILLIAM H. PRECKLE, Co. A”. Period ink inscription on reverse on 4” x 1 ½” attached piece of paper:  “William H. Preckle / Co. A 2ed N.H. Vol. / Orleans N.Y. / Coleman St.   Paid 50”; in faint pencil is ‘This goes in frame”.  No photographer’s marks.

Overall good condition. Minor scattered wear and staining to lower edge of mount.

Born in Keene, NH, William H. Preckle was 21 years old when he enlisted on 5/22/61 as a private. On 5/31/61 he mustered into Co. A, 2nd NH Infantry. Listed as severely wounded on 8/29/62 at Bull Run, VA. Discharged for wounds on 2/3/63 at Washington, DC.  He died on 12/27/1923 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Keene, NH.  [ld]
