Image shows Albert L. Hall of Company I. He wears a dark civilian suit with white shirt. Bottom of the mount has a printed caption that reads “ALBERT L. HALL, CO. I..”

Image has good clarity; contrast is somewhat light. Paper and mount are very good with minor wear along right edge.

Reverse has photographer’s mark for W.G. C. KIMBALL, CONCORD, N.H.. Period ink inscription on the reverse reads “A. L. HALL. CO. I / NEWPORT / N.H.” and “PAID .80”.

Born in Blue Hill, ME on 7/17/39, Albert L. Hall was a 21-year-old resident of Cornish, NH when he enlisted on 5/21/61 as a Private; on 6/7/61 he mustered into Co. I, 2nd NH Infantry. He was listed as a POW on 7/21/61 at Bull Run; on 7/23/61 he was confined at Richmond, VA, and then sent to New Orleans. Paroled on 5/24/62, place not stated. He was discharged on 7/2/62. Following the war, he lived in Newport, NH, where he died on 7/28/1911. He is buried there in Maple Street Cemetery.

The 2nd was a hard-fought regiment seeing action at 1st Bull Run, Williamsburg, Oak Grove, Gaines’ Mill, White Oak Swamp, Malvern Hill, 2nd Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg where the 2nd bore the brunt of the assault on the Peach Orchard. After Gettysburg the 2nd garrisoned Point Lookout for a time before returning to the army to fight at Drewry’s Bluff, Cold Harbor and Petersburg.  [ad]
