CDV is a chest-up view of Captain Theodore M. Roberson. He is wearing a dark colored jacket with collar. The bottom of the mount has the handwritten inscription, “YOURS TRULY, T.M. ROBERSON, CAPT. CO H, 124TH NYV”.
Reverse has the photographer’s imprint, which has a sketch of a photographer taking an image of a family, and it reads, “MADE AT WHITE & HUTLER’S EXCELSIOR PHOTOGRAPHOC HALL, MIDDLETOWN, OR. CO., N.Y. COPIES CAN BE HAD BY SENDING, NO. 207”. There is also a blue tax stamp on the reverse, which has been initialed.
Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age.
Theodore M. Roberson enlisted at the age of 22, on August 19, 1862 at Goshen, NY as a 1st Sergeant. On September 5, 1862 he mustered into Co. “E”, 124th NY Infantry and was mustered out on June 3, 1865 in Washington, DC. He received the following promotions- 2nd Lieutenant on March 6, 1863; 1st Lieutenant on September 25, 1863; then as Captain on January 1, 1865 as of Co. “H”. He was listed as wounded on May 5, 1863.
