CDV is a three-quarter sitting view of a Union captain. He is wearing a dark colored frock coat with shoulder boards and dark colored trousers. Bottom of mount is labeled, “BRADY, NEW YORK”.
Reverse has the handwritten inscription which reads, “TRULY YOURS, CAPT. MACENTEE, ASST. PROVOST MARSHALL A. OF P.”. It also has the photographer’s imprint which reads, “BRADY’S NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT GALLERIES, BROADWAY & TENTH STREET, NEW YORK & NO. 352 PENNSYLVANIA AV. WASHINGTON D.C.”.
John McEntee [Macentee] is listed on civilwardata.com and findagrave.com with his name spelled as McEntee; however, he signed the back of this image as “Macentee”. He was 26 years old when he enlisted on 9/24/61 at Kingston, NY as a Qtr Master Sgt. On that date he mustered into Field & Staff, 80th New York Infantry. Promoted to 2nd Lt. of Co. K on 2/18/62; 1st Lt. on 9/22/62; Captain of Co. A on 10/5/62; Lt. Colonel on 12/19/64; and Colonel by Brevet on 3/13/65. He is buried in Montrepose Cemetery in Kingston, NY.
Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time and shows signs of water damage.
