Nice vignette bust view of Andrew W. Willis as Quartermaster of the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He wears a dark kepi with a "US" within a wreath on the front, white shirt and collar with dark bow tie and a dark frock coat open at the throat.
Image has excellent clarity and contrast.
Reverse has photographer's imprint of MORSE'S GALLERY OF THE CUMBERLAND. There is also some collector information in pencil.
Andrew W. Willis was born in Pennsylvania. He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry on August 22, 1862 and was later promoted Corporal. On December 5, 1863 he was commissioned Captain and Assistant Quartermaster in the Quartermaster Department. He was promoted Major by brevet on June 23, 1865 and Lieutenant Colonel the same day. He was mustered out on December 31, 1867. [ad]
