Nice outdoor view of the 1765 church in Falls Church, Virginia. The two-story building is viewed from across the street. The upper story has 5 arched windows while the lower has four, two on each side of the main door. Between the camera and the church building is a wooden picket fence lining the churches front yard. There are several trees around the building and three tall horse hitches along side the road. A man in civilian clothes, maybe Brady himself, leans against one of them as he views the building.

Image has good clarity and contrast. Paper and mount are slightly toned and the left edge of the mount is chipped.

Reverse has photographer’s imprint for BRADY’S NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT GALLERIES. Top has faint period pencil inscription “FALLS CHURCH.”

The building was used as a recruiting office during the Revolutionary War and as a stable by Union forces during the Civil War.  [ad]
