Image shows a large two-story house viewed from the end of its tree and bush lined driveway. The house as a chimney at each end with five windows across the top floor and two on each side of a porch covered entryway. Extending off to the right of the house is a covered walkway or pantry attached to a summer kitchen. Off to the left side of the house is an open yard.
Image clarity and contrast is good. Mount and paper have only light surface dirt. Bottom of mount has 1862 publication date.
Reverse has a printed label with caption that reads “PHOTOGRAPHIC INCIDENTS OF THE WAR – NO. 360 – FARNHOLD’S HOUSE, WITH PART OF FEDERAL BATTERY NO. 1 IN THE DISTANCE.” At bottom is photo credit line for James F. Gibson. HOWEVER, this label is not the correct one for this view and was mistakenly applied to the back of the mount by the photographer. The house in the photo is actually Liberia House which served as Beauregard’s headquarters during the 1st Battle of Bull Run. [ad]
