This unidentified CDV is of four Marines during the Civil War. The image was taken in San Francisco. Two of them are seated in chairs, and two are standing. All four are wearing dark colored frock coats, light colored trousers and kepis. The first three men have a bugle with the letter “M” insignia on their kepis. The second soldier has a cigar in his mouth.
Reverse of image is marked with the photographer’s imprint, “BAYLEY & CRAMER’S FINE ART GALLERY, 618 AND 620 WASHINGTON STREET, NEXT TO MAGUIRE’S OPERA HOUSE, S.F.”.
Image is clear with good contrast. Some light surface dirt is present. [sl]
