This CDV shows the Chief in a dark civilian suit with close cut hair. He is seated in a chair with his hands resting on his lap. His coat is open to reveal a dark vest and watch chain. The image is very good with clarity and good contrast. There is light surface dirt around the edges of the mount and the image.
The reverse is blank but does have a period ink inscription that reads “2nd CHIEF/JOHN MAH HEE.”
Research shows a similar image of Chief Mah hee in the collection of Bryn Mawr College which dates their image to 1880.
