This CDV is a bust image of Murray in dark civilian suit with close cut hair. He wears a white shirt with a western style narrow tie. The image is clear with good contrast. There is light surface dirt around the edges of the mount and the image itself.
The reverse is blank but does have a period ink inscription that reads “INTERPRETER/CURWIN MURRY”
Research shows a similar image of Murray in the collection of Bryn Mawr College however the name is spelled KURWIN MURRAY. The college dates their image to 1880.
Apparently Murray was a government interpreter for the Iowa tribe.
