CDV image shows Colonel Bowers seated by a draped table on which his forage cap rests. The Colonel wears a dark double-breasted frock coat with light trousers. He is posed with his hands in his lap.

The image is a little grainy but otherwise good.  The contrast is good and details are clear.

Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for J. B. JEWELL…NASHUA, N. H. There is also a blue 2 cent revenue tax stamp

George Bowers was born April 22, 1817 in Dunstable, New Hampshire. He served in the Mexican War and from 1853 to 1861 was the Postmaster of Nashua. At the age of 45 he was commissioned Lieutenant Colonel of the 13^th New Hampshire on September 23, 1862.

The 13^th was assigned to the 9^th Corps and saw its first action at Fredericksburg. The regiment went into winter quarters where it remained until March when it was shifted to Suffolk, Virginia.

On May 30, 1863 Lieutenant Colonel Bowers resigned but six months later he was commissioned a Major in the Veteran Reserve Corps where he remained until muster out on November 10, 1865.

After the war he returned to Nashua where he was an active member of the John G. Foster Post #7 of the GAR. Bowers served as Post #7 commander as well as Commander of the Department of New Hampshire from 1879-1880 and National Jr.-Vice Commander in 1881.

Bowers died on February 14, 1881 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Nashua, New Hampshire.
