Three-quarter seated view of a soldier holding his slouch hat in his lap. The subject wears a dark shell jacket with dark piping that looks to be running down each side of the buttons on the front and a dark but discernable Farrier’s horseshoe on the left sleeve. He also wears light trousers with a dark wide NCO leg stripe.
The image has good contrast and clarity but does have a sepia appearance. Image and paper have light to moderate surface dirt.
Lower right corner is chipped.
Barely visible at bottom is the photographer’s name ALLEN.
Reverse has a modern pencil inscription stating that the photographer was from Boston and noting the Farrier rank on the sleeve.
Rare image in any condition. [ad]
